Officers investigating an assault in Newcastle city centre have released images of two men they would like to speak to.

Shortly after 1.05am on Sunday, December 15, 2024, it was reported a man had been assaulted inside the Mayfair on Newgate Street.

It was understood two men had approached the victim and, following a brief verbal altercation, have hit and punched him in the face.

The pair have then left the scene on foot and the incident was later reported to police.

The male victim – aged in his 20s – sustained a fractured jaw and chipped tooth which required medical treatment.

One of the men was described as a white male, aged in his 30s, with dark short hair, wearing black trousers, black shoes, a green long-sleeved top with a dark jacket.

A number of enquiries have been ongoing since the report was first made.

As part of the ongoing investigation, today (Wednesday) officers have released an image of two men they are looking to trace.

They were believed to have been in the area at the time of the assault and may have information that could assist police.

The men, or anyone who knows who they are, should send a direct message to Northumbria Police on social media or use the live chat or report form functions on the Force’s website.
