A 76-year-old Hartlepool resident, known locally as the “Hartlepool Bird Man,” has been fined £2,176.13 for feeding wild birds in the town. Brian, who purchases 30 loaves of bread daily to ensure the birds are fed, was taken to court after the council accused him of contributing to a vermin issue.

Despite his efforts to avoid restricted areas, Brian continued his long-standing routine, believing that no bird should go hungry. As a result, he has now been issued a two-year criminal behaviour order, alongside the substantial fine.

Supporters argue that acts of kindness like Brian’s should be encouraged rather than penalized. His daughter has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs, urging the community to stand in solidarity with him.
