Officers are appealing for footage and witnesses as they investigate a report of robbery in South Tyneside – for which a man has already been charged.
At about 10.40pm on Friday, March 7, it was reported that a man had robbed a woman on Beach Road in South Shields, directly opposite Beach Road Nursery, stealing her coat, mobile phone, cash, and medication.
It was understood he had dragged her to the floor and assaulted her, before taking her belongings and fleeing on foot.
Members of the public stopped to intervene and detained the suspect who was immediately taken into custody by officers.
The victim suffered facial injuries as a result but was left extremely shaken by the incident.
A 50-year-old man has subsequently been charged with attempted robbery, assault, and a public order offence. He appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning (Monday) and is due appear back at the same court next month.
To assist the ongoing investigation, officers are today appealing to the public for any witnesses or footage of the alleged incident which may assist their enquiries.
They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have doorbell or dashcam footage of the incident itself, or of the moments in the lead up, which may have been obtained from motorists driving along Beach Road.
Anyone who may be able to assist is asked to check for any footage showing a white male, approximately 5ft 10in, wearing a long-sleeved grey and orange jacket with an orange hood and wearing black trainers with orange detail.
Anyone with information is asked to get in touch by sending the Force a direct message on social media or using live chat and report forms on the Northumbria Police website.
Those unable to make contact in these ways can call 101.
